Our History

In 1924 a group of local golf enthusiasts started Kings County Country Club as a private nine-hole course. In the 1920’s the old Hanford High school building was moved from Lacey Park to become the clubhouse. It took a week to move the building, pulling it with horses and using telephone poles as rollers.

In 1959 the back nine property was purchased and the name changed to Kings Country Club. The back was built by Cleare Stone, Greens Superintendent and Eddie Roak, Head Pro with the help of members who brought their equipment to assist with the construction. The back nine opened for play in 1961.

In 1988 a fire destroyed the Pro Shop and cart barn. The new Pro Shop opened in 1989.

In 2007 the original clubhouse was destroyed in a fire and the current clubhouse was opened in 2010.

We have had some well-known people employed as the Head Pro. Paul Hahn was our first Head Pro, he was the famous trick shot artist. Jim Watkins, golf professional was employed as a Head Pro here also.

Some famous people who have played at Kings Country Club include Bob Hope, Charlie Daniels, Vince Gill, Chris LeDoux, Toby Mac, Kelly Slater, George Lopez, Michael Bolton, Craig Stadler, Scott Simpson, Bruce Bowen and Mark Gardner.
